Donating your tax refund
All donations to the Pacific Leprosy Foundation of $5 and over are tax deductible in New Zealand. Claiming your tax rebate and donating it to the Foundation is a fantastic way to make your donation go further, and to contribute even more to our work.
What are the laws regarding tax rebates?
Donations of $5 and over are tax deductible in New Zealand.
Since 1st April 2008 individuals can claim 33.3% up to the limit of their total annual income and companies to the limit of their annual net income. Small businesses with five or fewer shareholders are also included in the company deduction for the first time.
The Pacific Leprosy Foundation can accept your tax rebate because we are approved by the Inland Revenue Department as a donee organisation and are also registered with the Charities Commission, which monitors charities on its register.
Why should I claim a rebate?
If you do not claim your tax rebate the money remains with the government. However, if you claim your rebate and donate it to the Pacific Leprosy Foundation, you can make your initial donation work again.
It's a great way of making your donations tax efficient and of contributing even more to our work!
Remember, if you donate $100 to us, you are eligible to claim $33 back in a tax rebate. This tax rebate can help us to help even more leprosy affected people throughout the Pacific.
How do I claim my rebate and donate it to the Pacific Leprosy Foundation?
Follow these simple steps to donate your rebate directly to the Pacific Leprosy Foundation:
- Complete the IRD tax rebate form IR 526. If you need help completing this form, download the worksheet IR 527 or rebate information sheet IR 525.
- The IR526 form available from this page (above) already has the Pacific Leprosy Foundation details completed for your convenience. If you are filling in a separate IR526 please ensure our bank account details are included on the form in section 7.

Account Name: Pacific Leprosy Foundation - Post your completed IR 526 form with your Pacific Leprosy Foundation receipts to the IRD. To find out where to send your form consult the IRD website here. If you need copies of your Pacific Leprosy Foundation donation receipts or a tax certificate, contact us.
- You can even send your completed IR 526 form to us, together with your receipts, and we can forward it to the IRD for you.
