2nd Round of MDT Plus begins in Kiribati!

Tuesday, March 19th, 2019

This week, Jill Tomlinson – General Manager, is in Kiribati supervising the start of the second round of preventative treatment for all household contacts of leprosy patients.  In the first year 10,000 contacts of leprosy patients were visited by health staff and checked for signs of leprosy before many of them were given a single dose of Rifampicin (an anti-leprosy drug) which will enormously reduce the chance of them developing leprosy themselves.  The photo shows the first family to receive Rifampicin at the launch of the MDT Plus programme in Kiribati last year.
